about

Having recorded only two songs in his entire career, only one was actually released: His own composition “Chuva De Beijo.” Despite the co-writing credit given to Gaúcho Do Luar, Beto surprises us by revealing that this supposed writing collaboration was merely the condition under which Beto was able to have his already previously-recorded song included on the compilation of unreleased songs by indie artists, “Rancho De Paulo Bob Vol. 1,” that Fermata released in 1984.
The song was written for an ex-girlfriend of Beto’s. He was born in Duque De Caxias in Rio De Janeiro state and started playing acoustic guitar at the age of 15 through the influence of his older sister who gave Beto the instrument upon getting married.
At 18 he was already playing professionally in dance bands in Rio’s suburbs. This was when he met Tirone, a guitarist who took him to a studio and introduced him to a band that would arrange and record his two compositions “Uma Canção Que Fale” (a forró song that has never been released on vinyl) and the beautiful “Chuva De Beijos” which is a ballad bearing the influence of Banda Black Rio and Robson Jorge.
Beto had a very brief professional career. After the release of the compilation LP he made one live appearance on the now-defunct TVE RIO network backed by the same band as on the record. The song itself was generally only played on Rio radio stations during late-night hours.
In 1987, after getting married, Beto ended his professional music career. Today he works for the post office and only performs sporadically when requested to by friends at private parties and in bars.

Sonar Kollektiv Berlin, Germany

Sonar Kollektiv was founded in 1997 by Jazzanova. Designed as a platform for own releases it soon attracted numerous new discoveries and like-minded musicians to lead their trumps right here. Still it was never the intention of SK to pursue one specific sound or provide an already existing scene. Each and every release on the label was meant to illustrate the musical taste of the collective. ... more
