about

Sonia, whether going by the surname Burnier or Bonfá, possesses an astonishing voice, smooth as silk yet powerful and thrilling. One of Brazilian music’s most amazing voices and beautiful singers. She’s the niece of one of Bossa Nova’s top legends, guitarist Luiz Bonfá, and sister of Octávio Bonfá Burnier of the highly-esteemed MPB duo Burnier & Cartier. She’s also the distinctive voice heard on five-star classic albums such as “Ronie & Central Do Brasil” (1975), “Aquarius” (1976) and Burnier & Cartier’s two albums from 1974 and 1976.
Having majored in architecture, she also started her singing, writing and playing career quite early which resulted in a large and sumptuous discography. Hers is the voice heard in the opening theme song to 1978’s TV Globo novela “Te Contei?” and sang songs featured on novela soundtracks such as “Duas Vidas,” “Feijão Maravilha” and “Pecado Rasgado” for many years thereafter, as well as on the soundtrack of the classic childern’s series “Sítio Do Pica-Pau Amarelo” and Som Livre’s compilation album “Disco Show-1979.”
Her first solo single, under the name Sonia Bonfá, was released on EMI-Odeon in 1984 with her original composition “A Chave” and “Avatar” (co-written with her old friend Leiloca of the group As Frenéticas) on the flip side, both arranged by Nico Rezende.
Her final work before moving to Chile in 1995 was a guest appearance on her uncle Luiz Bonfá’s album “The Bonfá Magic,” on the track “Missal.”

Sonar Kollektiv Berlin, Germany

Sonar Kollektiv was founded in 1997 by Jazzanova. Designed as a platform for own releases it soon attracted numerous new discoveries and like-minded musicians to lead their trumps right here. Still it was never the intention of SK to pursue one specific sound or provide an already existing scene. Each and every release on the label was meant to illustrate the musical taste of the collective. ... more
