about

Sonar Kollektiv’s JAZZANOVA are not only a successful collective of music producers, they are also known for being outstanding DJs, who have been rocking the dancefloors of the most prestigious clubs from Berlin to Tokyo for years. For JAZZANOVA’s ALEX BARCK DJing is all about listening to your feelings and spontaneously play the tunes that come to your mind, and after all these years spinning records all around the world he defintively knows how to delight an audience on the dancefloor! With his new night called Based On Misunderstandings that he hosts in Berlin’s famous club Week End, ALEX delivers his personal vision of club music and invites friends that share the same DJing philosophy.

Following the success of the club night, ALEX further developed his concept and decided to create a special 12“ series on Sonar Kollektiv. Also named Based On Misunderstandings, this new collection should be regarded as a return to roots for every house DJ. It is dedicated to hot club sound that takes you by surprise, gets you dancing without you even noticing it and that really needs to be played out loud now!

For this first installment ALEX selected two great remixes of Sonar Kollektiv album tracks: SOULPHICTION’s Ghana Wadada (THE LOST MEN Remix) and EVA BE’s She Walks Alone (MARCUS WORGULL Remix). Both tracks are sizzling hot and deserve a proper 12“ release. THE LOST MEN are Zürich’s ALEX DALLAS and his friends ALEX GUSTAFSON and BERND KUNZ. ALEX is a truely passionate person who dedicates his life to music. Besides running Zürich famous club Zukunft and being a very talented DJ und producer, ALEX runs the much acclaimed Drumpoet Community label, that releases the works of artists such as LEXX KAWABATA, SOULTOURIST and QUARION. He recently released the compilation Drumpoems Verse 1 that gathers the best best tracks of his fellow drumpoets on Compost Records.
For Based On Misunderstandings 1 ALEX and his friends deliver a fresh new version of SOULPHICTION’s hit Ghana Wadada taken from his recent 2nd album Do You Overstand!? (SK180CD/elektrish). Their remix uses vocal samples to the perfection and floats elegantly between disco and house music. With its driving disco grooves, housey piano melodies and stabs of strings this new version of Ghana Wadada by THE LOST MEN will surely heat up the floors and subtly gets everyone dancing.
On the flipside MARCUS WORGULL comes up with a wonderful deep-house remix of EVA BE’s She Walks Alone that features the lovely voice of PEGAH FERYDONI and whose original version has been released in 2007 on EVA’s debut album Moving Without Traveling (SBCD0007 / SB7020/dem roots). MARCUS has been DJing for more than 10 years, runs the famous Groove Attack Recordshop in Köln and, as a producer, he has had a couple of releases on DIXON’s much acclaimed Innervision’s label, so needless to say that he knows one thing or two about house beats! His remix treatment is a soulful melodic number made of nice electronic pads, deep basslines and great harmonies that will please all the fans of emotional deep-house music and surely attract many people to the dancefloor!
This amazing first installment of Based Of Misunderstandings will pave the way for more great tracks selected by ALEX BARCK. Don’t miss out and look up for the next releases!

about

Sonar Kollektiv Berlin, Germany

Sonar Kollektiv was founded in 1997 by Jazzanova. Designed as a platform for own releases it soon attracted numerous new discoveries and like-minded musicians to lead their trumps right here. Still it was never the intention of SK to pursue one specific sound or provide an already existing scene. Each and every release on the label was meant to illustrate the musical taste of the collective. ... more
